A few errors have been introduced inadvertently while preparing the offical invite for la Coupe de Montréal 2022, and we would like to correct a few things. Please find below the main changes that have been identified — actual online web pages have been modified to reflect these changes. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
All events will be swum from the slowest to the fastest (including events #14 – 400m Medley – and #15 – 400m free).
Please remit all relays confirmations before the start of the meet (at 9h00 AM) at the Clerk of Course table.
Swimmers who are swimming in event 400m freestyle event DO NOT have to confirm their presence. Instead, they are asked to notify the Clerk of Course should they decide to scratch, before 12 noon.
No waiting list is being maintained. All athletes who registered will be participating. According to the amount of scratches we may receive, a new heat list may be redone. In such a case, it will be announced and new heat list will be posted at usual spots and at the Clerk of Course table.
These changes are effective and official and supersede their equivalent rules in the “Technical Questions” section of the official invite.

A technical meeting for coaches or team representatives takes place at 8:40 on the pool deck in front of the Clerk of Course table.
Each athlete will have the official program available online, alongside his or her assigned heat(s) and lane(s) for all individual events. You will also find online all current changes to the official program and heat list at swimrankings.net, or the equivalent version on splashme on your smart phone.
As a courtesy, coaches are asked to advise the Clerk of Course as soon as possible of any scratches involving his or her athletes and relay teams.
Lockers and security
Athletes must use the lockers reserved for their use. Locks may not be left on lockers once the meet is over, otherwise they will be cut off and the locker’s contents sent to lost and found. We recommend that you do not leave valuables in the lockers. We are not responsible for lost or stolen articles.
Food and beverages
Vending machines are available on site. A number of restaurants are also located nearby on Fleury Street, north of the sports complex. Breakfast and lunch will be served to volunteers and officials in the designated rest area.
The competition will take place in one 25m, 10-lane pool with an electronic timing system, complete with touch pads and alphanumerical scoreboards. Splash Meet Manager software will be used to manage the meet. The secondary pool will serve as a warm-up and warm-down pool during the whole duration of the meet.
Sanction and Regulations
The competition will be sanctioned by the Fédération de natation du Québec (37757). The Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) regulations, the rules for master swimmers from Swimming Canada, and the FNQ regulation on pool security (available in French only, our apologies) as well as the FNQ warm-up safety procedures, will be in effect during the competition.
Starts will be performed from the starting blocks according to the rules FINA FR 2.3 and SW 4.1 AND / OR starts will be performed from the side of the pool or bridge, according to the canadian rules on public pool installations CFR 2.3.1 and CSW 4.1.1.
Bathing caps are recommended. Individual races and relays will be swum as timed finals, from slowest to fastest, regardless of age or sex. Swim lanes will be seeded according to submitted entry times.
Heat lists for relays will be published as soon as they are ready. These lists will be posted on the wall in the shallow end; coaches and team representatives can obtain copies at the Clerk of Course’s table. With the exception of the backstroke events, we ask swimmers to remain in the water at the end of their event and to exit from the sides of the pool after the start of the following heat.
An athlete who does not show up for the start of an event will be excluded from that event only; he or she will not be allowed to make up the event unless an error has been committed by an official.
All swimmers must be affiliated with the FNQ or with a swimming federation recognized by FINA and be at least 18 years of age by November 12, 2022. Swimmers who are not affiliated with the FNQ (i.e., swimmers from outside the province of Quebec) must be covered by their federation’s accident insurance or a private insurance policy. In the latter case, they will have to show a certificate of proof at registration.
Relay team members must belong to the same club and be duly registered in the competition. Relay teams with athletes from different clubs are not allowed to compete unless they get special approval from the meet manager. In that case, they will compete in the ‘exhibition’ category and times from swimmers will not be recognized. Relay teams can be male, female, or mixed. Mixed relay teams are made up of two women and two men who may swim in any order. Relay cards must be submitted to the Clerk of Course at the latest before the start of the meet — that would be 9:00 AM. No swimmer may be a member of more than one team per relay event.
Age categories will be determined by the age swimmers will be on December 31, 2022. Age groups for individual events will cover 5-year periods with the exception of the youngest group, which ranges from 18 to 24.
The age group for a relay team is determined by totaling the ages in whole years of all 4 team members as of December 31, 2022. Age groups for relays will cover periods of 40 years with the exception of the first two groups, which range from 72 to 99 years, and from 100 to 119 years, respectively.
18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, etc.
Relay events (total age of four members):
72-99, 100-119, 120-159, 160-199, 200-239, 240-279, etc.
The cumulative points for each teams for the first round of the master swimmers Quebec Cup will be held by the Fédération de natation du Québec (FNQ). The winning teams, for the overall rounds of the Quebec Cup will be awarded at the Gala des Maîtres-nageurs du Québec.
Warm-up / warm-down
Two warm-up periods have been planned on the day of the meet. If necessary, a schedule for the official warm-up periods will be established for participating teams. The FNQ regulation on pool security (available in French only, our apologies) as well as the FNQ warm-up safety procedures will be in effect during the meet. No jumping or diving will be allowed during the warm-up, except in designated lanes. Swimmers must enter the pool gently with one hand on the pool edge or bulkhead at all times.
Any infractions of these regulations may be subject to sanctions. Coaches are responsible for supervising their athletes throughout the warm-ups. Diving will not be permitted throughout the warm-up period. The south part of the pool will also be available at all times during the meet, unless the maximum capacity of the pool has been reached. Details will be given at the technical meeting.
Awards for La Coupe de Montréal will be given out on Saturday evening or sent by mail. The team with the most points will win the Coupe de Montréal des maîtres nageurs (certificate in lieu of trophy). In addition, awards of distinction will be given in the following categories: team of six or more that has accumulated the greatest number of points per swimmer; male swimmer with the most points; female swimmer with the most points.
1st place: 7 points; 2nd: 5 pts; 3rd: 4 pts; 4th: 3 pts; 5th: 2 pts; 6th: 1 pt.
Relay Events (only for La Coupe de Montréal)
1st place: 14 points; 2nd: 10 pts; 3rd: 8 pts; 4th: 6 pts; 5th: 4 pts; 6th: 2 pts.
Results will be posted on the À Contre-Courant website as well as on the Swimming Canada results site no later than 8 days after the meet. Also, a delayed broadcasting of the results will be available on the application SplashMe, which you can download from the AppStore or PlayStore.
If you believe you may break a record during one of your events, let the Clerk of Course know in advance. All national and provincial records will be verified for all events.
